Jeff Hadley Family Fund
Rutland, Vermont
Hello Friends,

Shortly after Jeff was diagnosed with ALS in November 2004 he heard a quote that so moved him, he wrote it on a post-it and stuck it on the refrigerator: "Do all you can, in the time you have, with what you have, in the place you are."

Jeff lived by those words for the rest of his life, dedicating himself to raising money to find a cure. As a professional golfer and through his associations with the Driving 4 Life Campaign and his own Jeff Hadley Foundation, Jeff helped raise hundreds of thousands of research dollars.

He knew a cure was unlikely to be found in time to save him. Just as there had been no cure for his father, grandfather, uncle, cousins and the hundreds of others in the Hadley family who have died of ALS over the last 250 years. Jeff's family carries the SOD1 familial strain of ALS and studies show that since 1746, the disease has hit and desimated every single generation of the Hadley family. Jeff was determined to make this generation the last to live and die with this nightmare disease.

Jeff died May 25, 2006 at age 54, in the middle of planning his next fund raising event. He died too soon to know that his courage, strength and dedication is now paying off.

To date, no one else in Jeff's immediate or extended family has been diagnose
with ALS but the family's dedication to finding a cure continues.

Jeff's two brothers and cousin are courageously taking part in a research project specifically targeting SOD1 carriers.  The ability to screen for the SOD1 gene is relatively new and understandably controversal.  The process is life-changing whether you choose to know the results or not.  Like Jeff, his brothers and cousin are "doing all they can with what they have" to end their family's nighmare.

Through the Jeff Hadley Family Fund, we are dedicated to carrying on Jeff's fight for a cure. Jeff's post-it may be torn and wrinkled but we continue to do all we can, in the time we have, with what we have, in the place we are. We sincerely hope you will join us. We are so close. We can make a difference.

Save the Date!

This year's Jeff Hadley Day will be held on May 26, 2010.

Thank you for caring.
